Last Artist Standing

I wrote an essay on my life, how I came to be an artist, and how I’ve been able to continue making art through the decades, and you can read it in Last Artist Standing: Living and Sustaining a Creative Life, along with the essays of many other artists, all of us over the age of 50. The essays describe our lives, the joys we find in our work, as well as difficulties relating to health, finances, the responsibilities of caregiving, and more. Each and every essay is moving and encouraging, as the artist speaks their truth. Thank you to editor and artist Sharon Louden for inviting me to be part of this collection. Last Artist Standing is the third volume in the Living and Sustaining series, and can be bought through the University of Chicago, publishers of the series.

In and Of: Cicely Carew and Eva Lundsager

In and Of, Cicely Carew and Eva Lundsager will be at the Philip Slein Gallery in St. Louis, MO, February 21 through March 29, 2025. I am delighted to be showing with Cicely, who I met when she was my student, and it has been a joy to follow her achievements. Phil Slein, and his curator, Jim Schmidt, have been supporting my work for about 35 years, which is pretty incredible, and I am happy to have known and worked with them these many years. Jim wrote a beautiful essay around the show, and you can read it here.

Zine cover

Last year we made an artist book/zine for Alchemy of Color: Eva Lundsager, Patricia Sonnino, and Janine Wong at Merge, a beautiful exhibition space in Stone Ridge, NY. Each artist collaborated with a poet, in my case Jessica Baran. Jessica wrote a new poem, and it is so very wonderful, and titled Howsoever. Yutong Shi wrote a thoughtful, insightful essay on my work, and you can find a link to it under Press/Publications.

AGNI 98

Thank you AGNI for inviting me to contribute an essay on painting to your exceptional literary publication! AGNI 98, October 2023, includes a portfolio of some of my recent work and an essay I wrote about painting and its relevance to our lives. I am delighted to be in the company of so many people who write so beautifully. Click here to get a copy: AGNI 98.

Ovation, a solo exhibition, on view at Praise Shadows, Brookline, MA, May 5 - June 11, 2023.

Ovation is Eva Lundsager’s first solo exhibition in Boston. “There is something compelling and challenging about working within the confines of a tradition,” says Lundsager. “No special materials, no attempts to redefine the rules of painting, and instead just working to address the complexity of life on our planet as it is now, through the basic tools of paint and canvas.” Read the full press release and see the work, at www.praiseshadows.com

First Attempt, oil on canvas, 60 x 84 inches, 2019.
